This weekend has been a long one, and I am feeling it today.
Had some shopping to do on Friday, so I spent it with my mother trying to find a suitable gift for the baptism we were invited to on Saturday. I found the most adorable turtle plushie that just screamed “Hug Me!” so I’m happy with how that turned out. I also came away with some personal shopping because why not make the most of it when you’re in town anyway? Besides, one of the shops had a large discount on all jeans at the moment, and you can never have too many pairs of jeans (especially since mine keeps breaking for some reason).
And then on Saturday, it was time to get in the car for the one hour+ drive to the town where D’s nephew was going to get baptised. We did make a pitstop in our closest town to spend about 15 minutes with the Clamperl event in Pokemon Go (which resulted in one shiny for me and none for D) because otherwise, we would have missed it completely, but we still made good time in arriving.
As an atheist, church-services are always a little awkward for me. I generally just hope that no one looks too carefully at me (which let’s face it, they won’t) because while I can always look like I’m humming along with psalms that I don’t know (out of respect for the parents), I completely refuse to take part in the prayers and confession of faith that is usually a part of ceremonies like this. I honestly feel that it would be far more disrespectful to take part in them while not believing a single word than to stay quiet for that part.
Moving on from the church ceremony to the reception, we stuffed ourselves with all kinds of sugar and about three cups of coffee. I ended up sitting beside the grandmother of Jamie’s dad, a lovely woman, and as she pointed people out to me and introduced them I realised that I had never met any of that family apart from the guy himself.
All in all, it was a lovely evening, one that dragged on for longer than we had originally planned. It ended up being almost 7pm before we started driving home, still without eating anything but sugar…We were the last to leave for once, having come with my sister-in-law and her small family to see their new house.
We picked up some dinner on the way home, and at that point I was nursing a headache and slight nausea, because of course I was.
The crash was bad but expected, and I handled it with popcorn and mindless YouTube videos before going to bed early.
The weekend wasn’t done however… I had a 10-hour workday on Sunday, and another 7 today, and that is just the start. We have a guy on vacation right now, and when asked how much I wanted to work, I promptly answered: “as much as possible”. So this week and next is going to be tough. I’m not too worried though, I’m just gonna use whatever time I have to myself to take care of me.
Have a wonderful day and stay crazy!
