You Say Crazy Like It's An Insult

Almost a month ago, my car failed to pass its yearly checkup. That means that I had a month to get the issues fixed or the car won’t be legal to drive. So, after locating the problems and ordering the stuff for my father-in-law to help me fix it, we have been going at it all day, with some breaks in between.

My new muffler

It turned out to be a mess of a job. We originally thought that it would be fairly quick, just changing the muffler and some stuff on one of the brakes. Oh, how wrong we were… Turned out we had to basically improvise a rebuild of sorts of the exhaust system because the one that was there was not the original. Instead of being in parts from the beginning, like it showed when buying the parts (I had ordered only the muffler, specified to my exact car), the entire exhaust system was in one piece… After some cutting, we realised that we needed to go buy a few more things to make things fit. Queue a car trip in the middle of everything.

Coco is excited in the car

I’m gonna be honest here, I like my father-in-law most of the time, and am incredibly grateful to him for helping me out with this, saving me the cost of a hired mechanic (only because he refuses to take any payment for his work. I have offered). However, I am also lowkey worried for my life whenever I get in a car with him. He drives a bit like a teenage boy with their first car; very aggressively and fast, often keeping at 20 km/h above the speed limit, sticking very close to other cars, and making reckless over-takings. He also keeps his three dogs loose in the backseat, and one of them likes to try to get into the front seat… constantly… So I try to ride with him as little as possible. Today there was no other choice though since we needed those parts to get my car running. I need it in the morning since I’m opening at work after all.

In the end, we finished up with the muffler at around 8 pm, leaving no time to get started on the brakes. We have tentatively decided that I drive my own car to work tomorrow, and then my father-in-law will come to pick it up, leaving his car, and take it home to get the rest done. Hopefully, nothing else will go wrong because I need to get it in to be re-checked on Wednesday (my next day off).

Anyway, that’s my day. I hope you have a wonderful one, and stay crazy!
