2 Cards Pulled
Ace of Spades, 9 of Diamonds
It might have been a good thing that I got today off today after all.
I feel a bit better today. I managed to get the panic from yesterday under control, and I no longer feel like I am cracking. At least, not as bad. I decided that I could use a long walk to clear my mind today, so I went out for a stroll in the city. That was when I found it.
On the outskirts of town, bordering on a small grove of trees, was an abandoned building that I had never noticed before. It isn’t big, in fact it looks a lot like a storage shed, but it seems to keep dry at least. I was curious, so I went inside to have a look, and I think that I might actually be able to use it. I will be keeping an eye on it for the next few days, but it doesn’t look like anyone is squatting there at the moment at any rate. I did a quick sweep, and there is no electricity laid on, which means no cameras, and I couldn’t find anything that looked out of place. I think that I will move some things there, maybe get a lock for the door. It would be good to have a space where I can’t be observed.
I was just about to leave when something caught my eye. In the corner of the room, shrouded in shadows and cobwebs, was a large trunk. The kind that you can put padlocks on to keep it secure. A quick inspection told me that it was empty, apart from a layer of dust, but to me, it is very useful. I just need to get a few heavy-duty padlocks to have a safe space to store the things that I have collected about the Game so far. And it will fit the briefcase as well. I don’t really want to have that thing in my apartment, it gives me the creeps.
I left the shed as I had found it, this time, deciding to come back later in the day to clean it up some. But I had barely walked for five minutes when my phone rang. The number was withheld, so I assumed that it was the studio, and I answered it without even thinking about it. It was not the studio. In fact, I have no idea who it was. All I know is that it was a woman’s voice, and it was shaking badly. It took a moment before I could make any sense of her rambled words, but when I did I wasn’t sure what to make of them. The one thing that I could make sense of was her repeated warning not to trust the game studio. She repeated it over and over, and I could feel my heart speed up every time she said it. She spoke rapidly for a couple of minutes, not letting me get a word in, but I took my chance when she had to stop to breathe.
I asked her who she was, and why she was telling me this, but I didn’t get a clear answer at all. She only said that she was a player, and that there was something more than meets the eye with the studio. And then she hung up. I did find that kind of rude, but I also know the kind of anxiety that playing this Game can bring. I mean, didn’t I have a bit of a melt down only yesterday? Who was I to judge? And honestly, it’s not as if it was the first time there seemed to be something off about the studio. I thought so myself not too long ago. But so far, the only things that I have against it is very flimsy. There is nothing concrete to grab on to. But I will keep looking. I will be going back tomorrow after all. But so far, the only thing I have to go on is the fact that Aiden died at the office, and the strange way everyone else was acting yesterday. I mean, there is no way that the boss doesn’t know that two of their employees are dead, especially with one of them dying in the office. So why is everyone under the impression that they are both on vacation? I think that this woman might be on to something. Something is not getting told here.
I kept mulling this over as I went to the hardware store, but by the time I walked out with three big padlocks and a few other supplies in my hands I was no closer to figuring anything out. Resigning myself to not getting anywhere I took a quick trip home to gather up all of the things that I have gathered up relating to the Game and stuffed them in my backpack before heading out again. I took another route this time, just in case I was being watched. At this point it wouldn’t surprise me much.
The shed looked just like it did when I left it, and I wasted no time dumping the entire content of the backpack into the trunk and locking it up tight. Well, almost everything. I will keep the flash drive on me just in case I need to save more stuff from my computer. But all the rest is now locked away safely. It feels like the air in my apartment is easier to breathe now.
