It has been ages since I gave this blog any thought, but with the project I am attempting at the moment it felt like a perfect way to get some use out of it.
I am currently in the very starting stages of a Solo Journaling RPG, and I thought that it might be interesting to post the result here as I write it. So let me introduce you to the game I have chosen to play this month.
The Great and Secret Game is a game that is available on Itch.io and that I picked up in a bundle not too long ago. This is what the creator says about it in the introduction:
“You have before you a solo journaling game that will guide your attempts to win The Great and Secret Game, an underground alternate reality game. You will try to learn the rules of the Great game and avoid getting killed by other players or removed by the shadowy Enforcers for breaking the rules you do not know, as reality itself seems to bend around you. If you win, you will have the ability to change the world as you wish. However, it would be best if you were clear that you will most likely fail and may destroy this universe when you do.”
Sounds appropriately dramatic right? So I decided to give it a whirl. At the point of posting this I have finished up the first two days, and have started on the third and I am enjoying it a lot. It is challenging but rewarding, and I feel like it is a good way to get into the head of a character. I am using the main character of another story, one that is still in the brainstorming stages, to see how she reacts in extreme situations, and I feel like this will help me a lot.
As for posting here, I will be starting to post the days tomorrow, Wednesday, starting with Day 1, which is the introductory day when our main character is first thrown into the game, and then post a new day every day or every other day until I finish the game. That is the plan anyway. There might be more of a gap between days sometimes due to work and how many prompts I get for that day. But for now, that is what I want to do. So come join me as I dive into the Game, and try to survive the journey.
